Imported from Italy
A stunning LIVE performance of some of the oboe's most virtuosic fare. Never heard of folks like Platti, Besozzi, or Sammartini? These were the star composers and performers of the age, inspired by (or in competition with) the accomplishments of Antonio Vivaldi.

JS Bach: Transcriptions for the Baroque Oboe
A wonderful compilation of some of Bach's best known chamber and solo works, including a riveting oboe version of the first solo cello suite. Ruiz writes in his liner notes, "It is my hope that this recording will offer the listener a new perspective on these incomparable compositions, and also on the uniquely expressive two key oboe that is so central to the music of Bach." With Joanna Blendulf, baroque cello, and Katherine Shao and Peter Watchorn, harpsichord.

Robert Schumann : Romances
One of the only recordings of this wonderful Romantic repertoire on instruments of the era. Schumann's Romances for Oboe and Piano are some of the move beloved works of the oboe's repertoire; also featured on this disc are the Adagio and Allegro Op 70, and the 5 Pieces in Folk Style for Cello and Piano. The instruments on this recording include a real German system Romantic oboe from the 1880's, an 18th century cello, and a Viennese piano built in 1841.

Handel
Oboe Sonatas
Lyrical, tuneful and virtuosic works by the inimitable Handel. This is the recording that put Gonzalo X. Ruiz on the map and ten years later is widely regarded as a classic. "The soloist proves himself a master of expansive phrasing, lush tonalities and deft passagework" (San Francisco Examiner) in this beautiful album which includes the three acknowledged oboe sonatas as well as transcriptions of flute and recorder works from the same collections. The rich continuo of cello, harpsichord, organ and archlute provides an ever changing backdrop.

American Baroque's first recording of Classical music has met with unanimous critical acclaim. "The music simply can't be played any better than this", raved Fanfare. Definitive performances of the Oboe Quartet in F, the Flute Quartets in C an G, and the premiere recording of K496 in an 18th century arrangement, possibly by Mozart, for oboe and strings.
